Hair and Makeup - woohoo

So... This weekend I went to see Patricia Darquea at "A Perfect Look" for my hair and makeup pre-trial.

It was quite fun - she was not at all cheesy or superficial which I was worried about, she was actually kind of earthy.
She was very positive and her studio looked out on a nice vista (albeit of San Jose, it was still quite nice and relaxing up there).

The main purpose of posting these pictures is to get feedback on

1. the hairstyle - is the front looking too severe?
Am I being too negative about it? Maybe it's fine.
When I was walking around during the day afterward it looked nice in the mirror, but in pictures it looks kind of drab from the front.

2. The hair pins (jewelry in the pictures). Patricia has a very soft sell technique - she has all these pins available to show (and to take pictures of them in the hair).
Then, she can bring the ones desired to the wedding for purchase there at the on-site appt. These are made by a friend of hers, but several of the prices were kind of ridiculous - like $150 or so.
I hadn't really thought that much about these hair things - had thought she would propose something but not that it would be that expensive.

I just recently decided not to have a veil - partly because of cost and the need to go pick one out and buy one, and I just wasn't sure I really cared about the veil that much.

Here is the Hair and Makeup "Before Picture"
Complete with cheesy expression from me and blotchy skin. I am wearing a shirt from Zazzle with some cute Japanese-type cartoons on it, that are very cute, but probably not good for her and her website (where she sometimes posts these pictures).
You'll notice in the After picture she hides this with some lace!

(note to Kati and Kari, we need to make sure we are sitting near a natural light source - window, in the hotel room).

Here is the Hair and Makeup "After Picture"

(Sitting on an armchair across from the chair above, sun streaming in from window nearby...)

She lent me the string of pearls I'm wearing for the pictures.
These look pretty nice but if you look at the top of the dress (see pic at bottom of post) - maybe it is too much.
I was wearing Kristina's necklace earlier which is smaller, hugs up around the neck also though.

Hair pins by priority - Hair pin #1 - P1010045.jpg
I like this because it kind of matches the sequin design on the dress (although it is only seen in the back).
She did a lot of work on the back of the hair - it's all pinned up in different places and curled, etc.

Also here is the same pin I think, but placed on the side of the head. It seems weird to have them on both sides - but this does help dress up the whole head a little more (otherwise it's just decorated in the back).

P1010044.jpg

Hair pin #2 - P1010042.jpg
I like this one because it is large and follows across the whole back of the head....

These ones she tried on me but I wasn't that excited about them...
This one is nice but it's kind of getting lost in my hair.

The below is nice too, but i like the wider one above better. This looks like the hair is squishing it together.

The below is way too small by itself - I can't remember, I think she wanted to put in more of them all over...

I liked the idea of having a flower but this round white flower looks too big and potentially could make me look fatter. I can talk to my florist about her flower ideas for the hair....

This looks kind of cool as a tiara but felt a bit odd on my head.
Maybe if I was going to get two pieces, together with another on the back of the hair?

The dress - for reference - down here so we can see it but further down so harder for Dave, or Dad, to accidentally see it:

Florist and Decor Information

This post is to collect the information about the theme, the colors and the decorations for the wedding site.

Site: Foster City Recreation Center, Lagoon Room, Foster City.

Theme: Board games - see below for detail on the table names.

Colors:
Cobalt blue and light blue.

Colors: (From the Simple Silhouettes dress site):

"Marine blue" or Cobalt blue: groom's tie, bridesmaids' dresses

"Aqua blue": groomsmen's ties, accents (sashes, bows) on bridesmaids' dresses

Wedding Site:

Here is the wedding site - the Lagoon Room at the Foster City Recreation Center
(undecorated):

This picture is the front of the room.

Decor Pieces provided by site: (see also the handout we have):

* Chairs - provided by site. They are white folding chairs. Do we want to rent chair covers?

* Tables - provided by site. See handout with #s of tables and sizes

* Stage - provided by site - we plan to put this at the front of the room in front of the windows pictured above. At least bride, groom, and officiant will stand on this. and also wedding party perhaps.

* benches outside room

* coat rack, etc

Decor and Flowers needed:

Top priority - bridal party personal flowers:
* Bride's bouquet (with blue in it) -- note - idea to potentially just carry a rose instead. cheaper?
* bridesmaids' corsages - or simple bouquets? (3) - primarily white because the bridesmaids will be wearing blue dresses
* Groom's boutonniere
* groomsmen's bouts. (3)
* 2 father bouts (Solveig's dad and Dave's dad)
* 2 mother corsages (Dave's step-mom and Dave's mom)
* corsage for Pat (officiant)
* bout for Miguel (MC)
* corsage for Julie (planner)

* potentially - flowers for Dave's brothers if they are going to be ushers... - (3)

Other floral or decoration needs:

- Decoration for the front of the room. Curly willow branches in vases were suggested - although it sounds like this is too bland for the room.
- Decoration for the gift table
- Decoration for the guest book table
- Decoration for the cake table
- Centerpieces - these don't need to be floral. Remember to bring the example vase with me to florist appts. Potted plants? One rose?

Cobalt blue vases (need to buy the vases, though):

* We will have the tables named by board games -- signs on each centerpiece will have a picture of a board game box and name of the game - guests find their name on place cards or a name board and find their table.
- Flowers on the chairs?

Other Decorations:

- Red carpet aisle runner leading up to the front (needs to be rented or bought) - Michael's has aisle runners I just learned from yelp.

- Tablecloths (white) -will be rented

- tableware, silverware, glasses, etc - will be rented form Exquisite Rentals

Other space decor ideas:
* Wisteria? I saw wisteria on the Rockridge public library last week - not sure from where it would hang. This picture actually looks like it was taken at that library but it came from wikipedia:

* apple blossoms. I love flowering apple trees but I don't know if they would still be flowering in late April. Maybe the vases above could be curly willow and apple blossoms on branches?

Ideas for types of flowers:
* Blue hydrangeas (are they expensive)?
* purple veronica?
* deluxe light blue tweedias (from the knot book)
* spiky blue thistle -- in this picture: looks like cobalt blue kind of.
I actually really like this bouquet. maybe I should just go for that.

and this bouquet:
from the knot:
Megan carried a lush bouquet of hydrangeas, roses, and green berries.

The Sides of the Room:

* This is the right side (as you walk into the large space and turn to the right)

.This is the left side -- there will also be reception tables here (these barriers shown will not necessarily be there)
To the left in this picture is the area for the bar (where people can come and grab drinks after the ceremony and before the reception, before they go outside and greet the bride and groom).

This is where we are talking about having the buffet tables (at the back).
Reception tables will be set up in the other portion of this area.

Bridesmaid Dresses - current summary

We propose buying dresses through flutter, a salon we found in Mpls.

Address and contact info for flutter for reference:
720 West Lake Street, #107
Minneapolis, MN 55408
612 . 216 . 1926

Questions/Tasks
* Should Diana try to order hers also?
* Kati and Kari to fill out order forms or correct the info below if not correct.

Notes from our trip there:
Dressmaker: Simple Silhouettes

Styles Kati liked:
At visit:
* Knee-length satin-faced shantung ($295/dress) - mock-wrap, empire waist
* in emails afterward - separates were mentioned
* Kati also tried on one with a boat neck, empire waist -- but that one seemed to be only available in shantung which was the wrong blue.

Kari:
Lily - $315 for satin-faced shantung (although on the simple silhouettes site it is cheaper?)

Colors: (listed on simple silhouettes site) -
Marine #716 - main color
Aqua - #718 - accent color

I have swatches - I think Kari and Kati were going to get swatches from the store...

Rush fees -
5-8 weeks - $25 per dress (which we can still make at this point - for the 5 weeks)
3-4 weeks - $50 per dress
1-2 weeks - $75 per dress

Note for reference - it doesn't look odd to have 2 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen -- let's see with Diana what she wants to do, since these dresses are kind of crazy.
Also note these women had some nice shawls going on here.

Colors - Cobalt Blue and Sky Blue

The color of the dress here is "Sky Blue" and the color of the trim is "Pacific".

Which looks a lot to me like the Cobalt blue swatch below.

Dave's dad had proposed instead of blue and green, to think of a dark and light blue.

This dress is from Studio 28 and might not work so well since they are cotton dresses that cost $200.
What do we think?

This is Cobalt blue (a paint swatch). Which would be the color of the darker accents.
I've ordered swatches from the dress places also.

This is the other color I liked from the CocoMyles site but it doesn't really go with the cobalt blue, and it's too light to be the main color (doesn't work for the groomsmen's ties).
This one is Jewel Blue.

Superhero Necklace example

This is Andrea Scher's Superhero necklace design - grass and sky.

Dave and I both like the green and blue colors.

Joyce made some sample necklaces that I'll post in the next post.

Welcome to the SunPath Wedding blog

This blog will mostly be to keep track of links to various colors, dresses, jewelry, and the other "girly" bride stuff not as much related to the place, the food, etc.

I guess this is the "before" picture.

And people can comment here.
